FrameBalance

Guide

Why 1080p gaming is often CPU-limited

At 1080p the GPU finishes each frame quickly, so the CPU’s job — simulation, draw calls, and frame prep — becomes the limiter more often. That is why a high-end GPU can look “wasted” on a weak CPU at 1080p / high refresh rates.

Moving to 1440p or 4K usually shifts work onto the GPU. The same pair that looks CPU-bound at 1080p can look balanced or GPU-bound at higher resolutions.

If you play competitive titles at 1080p, prioritize a strong gaming CPU (and fast RAM) before chasing the absolute top GPU tier. Check your pair in the bottleneck calculator with the 1080p preset selected.
